OMG! It's The Grey!

EverQuest II's sixteenth expansion, Blood of Luclin launched today, at the absolute worst possible time for me. I neither have time to play nor write about it and won't until the New Year. But why let that stop me?

Servers came up about an hour ago and I've been running around exploring ever since. Nostalgia factor, for me at least, is orders of magnitude higher than World of Warcraft Classic because I spent countless hours over several years in EverQuest's Luclin zones. I've been waiting fifteen years to get back to the moon!

On my brief acquaintance so far it looks to be the most "open world" expansion since 2014's Altar of Malice. I hope first impressions don't lie. Also I foraged up four rares in fifteen minutes which is probably more than I got in the entire last expansion!

Nothing more to say right now except to advise anyone setting foot on Luclin for the first time, dressed in Panda gear or similar, to change everything out for the gear in Tishan's chest on the floor where you arrive. It looks worse when you read the stats but once I put it on I gained almost 20 milion HPs and over 20,000 Potency.

I just wish I had a week off work...

  1. I have not had a chance to check it out and I'm out of town all next week. Not the best timing. Hopefully I can get on for a bit in the next few days. I haven't been this excited for an expansion in awhile. It probably has a lot to do with the nostalgia, enjoying the dragon attacks event, and having a great time leveling up an alt.

    1. From the very limited amount I've seen so far I'd rate BoL the best expansion since Age of Malice at least. Certainly for explorers. Big, open zones, lots to discover. And it is so recocgnizeably Luclin!

    2. Great to hear! I logged on this morning to check out the overseer stuff and clean up my inventory some. I had a lot of mount and merc gear I needed to sort through. Did not have time to see any new zones yet.

  2. It took me two evenings of play, but I got there at last. And I picked up the new gear as soon as I arrived.

    1. Compared to Terrors of Thalumbra and particularly Rise of Kunark, which had a brutal opening session if you didn't prepare correctly, BoL starts very softly. Judging by some things I've heard in chat the instances have their moments but so far the overland content is a real pleasure in terms of combat difficulty.
