Day Ten - Nice

Santa Drives An Astrovan

The Philly Specials & Mt. Joy

  1. I was watching the video and going "Hey, that guy looks like Jason Kelce!" And then it clicked: the name "The Philly Specials" refers to a trick play in Super Bowl LII that the Philadelphia Eagles used to score a touchdown. So yeah, I had to look the band up and sure enough the band is composed of several members of the Eagles' offensive line (including Kelce). Of course, now Jason is more famous for being the brother of Travis Kelce, who is Taylor Swift's boyfriend, but he had a fantastic NFL career in his own right and will likely be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Okay, all that being said, this is a much better song than that done by some other NFL players (I'm looking at you, Super Bowl Shuffle). Plus the Astro Van part evokes a blue collar, down on your luck image that is perfect for the song.

    1. This is a big thing every year in Philadelphia, apparently, when the Eagles and associates put on some sort of musical event for charity. I was vaguely aware of it because it came up in some YouTube searches last year but this one actually appeared on my current music feeds and it seemed well worth sharing. The song is a re-written version of a song by Mt. Joy, just called "Astrovan". In the original it's Jesus driving the Astrovan, not Santa. I think the Phillies version is better, actually.
